i didn't ask why at the time, but then some years later i hear again that dubs have something against e, w & f. (not that they don't have something against anyone who isn't one of them) but what went on between the two groups?

Can't remember the lingo about prayer to Jah
by Texman55 inreading stuff on this board makes all sorts of nearly forgotten memories come sneaking back.....now what exactly was i taught about praying to jah for any personal concerns?
help me out folks, i forget just how the phaseology went: something like, god is under no obligation to mankind, not even jw's, to grant personal requests in prayer; the only proper things to pray about are to do with advancing the kingdom, like in field ministry etc.
so if you lost your job, it's not really right to pray for help finding a new one, or even like if your afraid of walking through a bad neighborhood at night, still no dice.

So what are we supposed to do if the act of praying for something that we want causes god to implement stumbling blocks? Should we lie to ourselves and say we DON'T want said thing? And if so, wouldn't god as well as ourselves know that would be a lie? I mean so what, when jesus told the storm to be still he actually prayed for it to keep going? When Samson prayed for god to destroy gods taunters, he actually said "Don't hurt them?" And speaking of that, wasn't that a little f'ed up? So these people taunt you....you're god, you're supposed to be bigger than that. Hell, any mom with two kids have uttered this very thing, but god is so immature? He bites more ass than Pac-Man, and we're supposed to worship this bum?

What is it with these conventions?
by tryingtounderstandjws inmy friend that is a jw spent the last week doing all kinds of things that go against everything i've been reading about jw's.
for example, drinking, hanging out with "worldly" people, gambling, having sex outside marriage and just basically living it up and doing whatever they wanted.
now, they're at this convention for the last two days and they're acting like a robot, spewing bible verses and talking about how evil the world is with all it's problems and immorality.

It's like going to Super Kingdumb Hall. At the SuckAss Assembly, all the buzzwords and key phrases come in by the truckloads, they scare children into following the message, they place the baptizims at these events to help insure you follow through (it's not likely you'd change your mind with so many people watching you), and they still want you to make your own lunch and let it get cold and/or soggy before lunchtime comes.

Gopher, I don't hate the people themselves, after all they're just falling victim to it as we all have. I hate this humanized religious concept of god. I hate how it wrecks the lives of everyone it touches like a T-Virus. I hate how someone can say something and right away it's true without the slightest research done. I hate how this religion still stands today due to the newbs that come in and put their every waking moment into the asinine belief that god gives a damn and that he is patiently waiting to bring his paradise into fruition. And the dub that told my aunt had the joke wrong in the first place so my aunt got a warped view. If dubs has their way we wouldn't be able to do anything outside of what takes place in their perception of paradise. I hate them. You spend all this time avoiding the life that's surrounds you and for what? Storing up treasures in heaven? What happens when you die and this truth turns out to be a lie? Then you would've wasted your life but of course at that time you wouldn't know you wasted it. I mean are we that freekin' impressionable that we can't even sit down and watch tv. They don't want you to build a thick skin toward stuff. It's just "Oh if you watch that you create a tolerance for it and then Satan can come in and blah blah blah" Shut the hell up. Satan makes it really easy to find him but with god (that douche) we gotta play hide and seek. god can't do jack for me but get bent.

Twilight Zone "On Thursday We Leave For Home" Parallels

i recently saw an episode entitled on thursday we leave for home, and it dawned on me that it had some interesting parallels regarding why a lot of witnesses never leave the religion even when it starts to become clear that its not the truth.
of course, these shows presented short moral lessons and different people can find different morals in them, but i digress.

It's rich man's syndrome. A lot of us would love to be rich, myself included. But after you buy everything that you want what else is your money doing? I think people won't accept this programming where they wouldn't want for anything. To become perfect is to become bored with life. It's like using a cheat device on a video game. You get up and plant food, tend to your house and family, and then what? There's no need for jobs, no need for money. No need to take a vacation because everything is the same. F--k the paradise, let me sleep.

I was playing Metal Gear Solid 4 today and got a little choked at Raiden and Snake's dialogue about having no one. I see similarities in my life in that I don't belong in the goof but at the same time I have this dub foundation that pretty much stole the time in my life where I should've been more social. It's like being stuck in some kind of undead purgatory. It urks the hell outta me.
